Say Hi to Marcie!

Welcome back all you Odd people! I hope you are enjoying reading all the fun and interesting tid-bits about the DT. I know I am!!! If you haven't gotten in on our first Challenge you're missing out! Go! Look!

Today, give a howdy to Marcie!

This is Marcie's FIRST Design Team! Can you believe it? I know I couldn't! The app I received during the call was wonderful! She knows her style and she plays it up! I can't believe no one has snagged her previously! Don't believe me? LOOK...

See? Well here's a lil bit about our Rookie...
I have been papercrafting for about 3 years now, which started out as scrapbooking and now am mostly concentrated in stamping/cardmaking. I love to try new techniques and participate in challenges, and a good sketch is always my starting point for inspiration. Colouring with Copic markers is an area I am having fun exploring currently, and am hoping to become more proficient at. I'm a 'mostly' stay at home mom, working part time as a librarian, and keep very busy with my 2 children; 3 year old Jake and 1 year old Robin.
Rookie is a bit of a loose term LOL!!! Marcie was also a good sport and answered our Odd Questions...
What makes you Odd? Oohhhh tough question...honestly, I'm about as normal as they get, but maybe if you ask my friends and family you will get a different answer...haha. Maybe I'm Odd because I'm a young, 'mostly' stay at home mom and wife at a time where a lot of women my age work outside the home full-time, and who identifies herself as a feminist...an oxymoron some might think, but to me, feminism is about choices and I choose to stay at home and enjoy the time I have with my kids while they are still small. That's all I got. :)

If you were a thumbtack where would you stick yourself? OUCH!! Why would I do that!!?? :) No seriously, why would I do that? My finger I guess...my eyes are filling with tears as I think of it...I don't deal well with pain. :)

What ONE crafty item do you most identify with and why? Patterned paper. I could get LOST in the patterned paper sections of any crafting store. I have SO much patterned paper it's disgusting...I hoard it because some pieces are too beautiful and/or awesome to cut up. I just lose myself in the designs that some of these paper companies come up with!

5 Random Facts about you!
1) I have been a Type 1 diabetic for almost 25 years and wear a hot pink insulin pump;
2) I live in a VERY rural town of about 100 or so people whom I have known and loved my entire life- I love small town livin'!;
3) I refer to myself as a 'work widow' which is probably not very nice, but my husband travels for business so much that we joke we've actually only really been married 4 of the 7 years if you go by how often we see each other;
4) I'm a librarian, and books and literacy are my passion (next to papercrafting!);
5) I have 2 butterfly tattoos on my back and am seriously considering what to get for my 3rd. :)

If you had to choose between being colour blind or losing your sense of taste for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Why? I choose being colour blind because to be able to taste is one of the most wonderful senses there is. Can you imagine never again tasting chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream?? Didn't think so!

What fictional character is most like you? Well, I just LOVE this question seeing as I'm a librarian and read books for a living. :) I'd say Kinsey Millhone from the 'alphabet' series by Sue Grafton. (A is for Alibi, etc.) She's fun, witty, smart and resourceful...I hope I'm those things too!
These questions never get old LOL! Another one where the thumbtack question leaves me lullzing :)

Well now that you know a lil something somethin about our Marcie hop on over to her blog where not only can you find a lot of fun but her style is so elegant! I can't even TRY to pull that style off. She also has another GIVEAWAY for you to get in on if you can tear your eyes away long enough LOL! Go! Look!

but don't forget to come back tomorrow! :)

Meet Jennifer!

Welcome back on this beautiful Tuesday for another introduction here at Some Odd Girl :)

Today let me introduce you to Jennifer!

I am slowly getting to know my wonderful DT by more than just the applications I received during the DT call and when I got Jen's ap, I went to her blog and found a lot of things that showed me she was a girl after my own heart! From...

(I LOVED Mario as a kid... ok still!) to...

I knew she was a girl I wanted on my team! Here's a little about Jen...

Hello my name is Jennifer. I married my high school sweet heart Jacob. We will be married for 14 years this March. We have two Christmas babies: Jennica (11) and Justin (6).

I have a BS in Apparel Merchandising and Management with a focus in Manufacturing. I work part time as a lunch lady just to get out of the house. Eventually, I need to find a full time job because my husband says I need to use my degree. Although, I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. LOL!

I enjoy all things crafty from sewing, beading, scrap booking, and my latest passion stamping. I love everything about stamping: the creating, collecting, and buying. Stamping reminds me of when I was younger: coloring, cutting, and pasting were some of my favorite past times. Who said, we had to stop doing that kind of stuff when we're adults.

See what I mean? A girl after my own heart! She's been fun to have on the DT and she also got to answer the Odd questions put forward:

What makes you Odd? I don’t know what makes me odd but almost every person I first meet asks if that’s my real voice. So I would say I have an odd voice. (It's just different.)

If you were a thumbtack where would you stick yourself? If I were a thumbtack, I would be placed on a college campus bulletin board. I want to see a lot of action.

What ONE crafty item do you most identify with and why? I would say scissors. You can create beautiful things with them but you can ruin things too. (For example, my cooking. Most of the time it’s good but sometimes it’s totally wrong. LOL!)

5 Random Facts about you!
1. I live in California.
2. I like to go camping.
3. I have two kids: Jennica and Justin.
4. I love crafting.
5. I married my high school sweetheart.

If you had to choose between being color blind or losing your sense of taste for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Why? I would choose to lose my sense of taste. Maybe then I will lose some weight.

What fictional character is most like you? I don’t read much but I think I would be like Bella from Twilight.

I lullzed at Jen's answer to the thumbtack question! What a great spot! Welcome to the team Jen - I am thrilled to have you!!! Now, head on over to Jen's blog where she has another giveaway you could win! Not to mention that you can check out all the fun and be inspired by her creative goodness and flair! This girl has it!

Thanks for stoppin by and join us again tomorrow for another intro, an interesting read and another giveaway!

Introducing Shelly!

We are back for a fun week of DT intros! Join us all the way thru Friday then back again Monday for more! Don't forget to get in on our first challenge HERE so you can have your chance to win!

Today I want to introduce you to Shelly!

When I had my DT call I wondered if anyone would apply let alone if I would find people that would click with our Odd style. Shelly was one of my first apps and  I'm so glad to have her! What she doesn't know is that Leah, who had met her on another DT, was going to recommend her but her app beat Leah to the punch LOL!!! A little about Shelly...
I've been stamping for several years now. I started out with a home party and rubber stamps and since then have moved more towards digi's. I love to create and try new things and inspired by everything around me. It's amazing just how much variety is out there. Stamping is my creative outlet usually after the kids have gone to bed. It's the best hobby I've found so far...and is rather addicting but in a good way.
Shelly has a love of houndstooth that rivals my own I think! With her app she submitted this project that was just amazing!

Shelly also answered our Odd questions! Let's get a deeper look into the creative mind!

What makes you Odd? My sense of humor. It can be rather quirky.

If you were a thumbtack where would you stick yourself? In a crowded area behind a glass display so I could be seen by everyone but only used by a few.

What ONE crafty item do you most identify with and why? A brad. Stylish and sharp.

5 Random Facts about you! I have a twin brother, I can't swim, I try to think the best of people, I have been known to shake Christmas presents and I love to watch Reality T.V.

If you had to choose between being colour blind or losing your sense of taste for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Why? Hmm....I'm not sure I'd enjoy food without a great sense of taste (especially chocolate) so I'd rather be color blind. My hubby would have to coordinate my paper colors so I could still create. What a lucky guy!

What fictional character is most like you? Buffy the vampire slayer- quick reflexes and always ready for a challenge.

Well we've got two foodies in the house! LOL! I'm thrilled to have Shelly on the DT! Her work has been blowing me away! If you want to see it for yourself jump on over to her blog for the Giveaway Shelly is hosting for today's festivities! You can't go wrong and you'll come away with so much inspiration you'll have to grab your own houndstooth and get to craftin!

Join us tomorrow for another intro and another giveaway!

DT Intros and a giveaway to be had...

Hi to all the Odd Girls of the world! I hope our first challenge yesterday is getting your creative juices flowing! Today and then starting back up on Monday I would like to introduce you all to our lovely Design Team! These girls repeatedly blow me away with their talent, skill and dedication! Its fitting then that each of them get a day to SHINE!

Today is all about my fabby DT Coordinator Leah l'orange!

Getting this bio and answers to some questions that MAY give you an insight into the mind behind creativeness was like pulling teeth! BUT that really just goes to show you how much she cares and helps others and puts herself second. I am overjoyed to call her my friend! she makes me "lullz" and I "lurv" her for that (both Leah terms LOL!) so here is a lil somethin somethin about Leah in her own words...

HI! I'm Leah the Orange, and i am SO excited and honoured to be doing this whole Some Odd Girl thing with my "Holmes"-slice, Kristy! our Odd Girls are amazing, and we hope you'll have lots of fun with the images and the challenges.

I'm a Canadian import, living in South Jersey (no, they don't say "JOY-ZEE" here, but they do say "WOOD-ER" for water!), because i married a crazy yank. i don't miss the Canadian winters, but the SOUP here in the summertime is a little tough to bear.

I'm not an artist, but I'm artsy. I'm not a musician, but i perform music. I'm not almost 36, but i am. i work from home and spend my waking hours on the computer, so when the clock strikes 5, I'd prefer to get CRAFTY over just about everything else! i only know one language fluently, but i speak my own language. i am a foodie, an indie film snob, a cruise director, and a little random at times.

only fitting that I'm an Odd Girl, right?
I know if you haven't noticed her before that you will be a fan when you go and check out her blog! But don't go just yet! I asked all our DT members to answer a series of ODD questions to give us a lil bit that you may never get from the typical DT intro session...

What makes you Odd? my quirky mannerisms, daring sense of style, i speak my own language and i HATE bananas!

If you were a thumbtack where would you stick yourself? above the Mona Lisa's upper lip - i always thought she'd look good with a mole

What ONE crafty item do you most identify with and why? ADHESIVE! I'm often the "glue" that bonds a group together. i can instigate (like when you stick something down and have a hard time repositioning it to get it JUST RIGHT), but I'm usually pretty good at playing the peacemaker - the diplomat - and can manage to put things back together again.

5 Random Facts about you!
~ I'm a 'business woman' - sounds so distinguished, right? but I'm a weirdo and it's a good thing i do business over the phone, because most of my customers wouldn't take me seriously if they saw me!
~ i seldom wear black.
~ my hair has been every colour of the rainbow.
~ i love to watch foreign films - widescreen and subtitled please! (never fullscreen or dubbed - YUCK!)
~ i know lots of stuff about cars and can usually identify them by the shape or colour. i can change my own oil, too, but i don't.

If you had to choose between being colour blind or losing your sense of taste for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Why? oh, as a foodie, i could NEVER give up my sense of taste! mouth-watering pink grapefruit? a perfect creme brulee? spicy thai? FRESH SUSHI and bubble tea? mmmmmmmmmmmmm..... i would miss those too much. and most of my crafting isn't terribly influenced by colour anyway (some would say my combinations are rather, um, unlikely!). somehow I'd convince myself I'd found a way to make the colours work, even if the rest of the world disagreed. :D

What fictional character is most like you? BUTTERCUP! do you remember the PowerPuff Girls? Buttercup is the FEISTY one, who's not afraid to do her own thing, and think for herself. she calls it like she sees it, she doesn't take any crap from anyone, she's strong-willed but sensitive and VERY GOOD at holding grudges. ;) she isn't the "leader of the pack" but she demands that her opinions be heard. SO me.
I love this questionnaire! You can look forward to a WIDE variety of answers and some surprising similarities in the coming days.

NOW I would love for you to jump over to Leah's blog where she has a giveaway to celebrate all the fun goin on here at the Some Odd Girl Challenge Blog! I'm serious though, be warned, her blog is addictive! Not to mention you can learn some more Leah-speak!

We love you girl! Thank you for being my guinea pig, co-conspirator and friend! MWAH!

Come back on Monday for another intro and another giveaway!

Some Odd Girl KICKS OFF with a RAINBOW challenge!

HI!

So pleased you've made it to our little spot on the web! If you're a friend of any of the Odd Girls, then you've probably heard (or seen) a good bit about SomeOddGirl.com, and we hope you're here because you LIKE what you've seen, and want to join in the fun!

We'll be introducing you to all of the Odd Girls over the next several days, so come and visit and get to know the gang!

Today, we are SO excited to kick things off with our very first challenge! We'll be bringing you alternating "Stash and Style" challenges every other Thursday, with lots of yummy projects from our Odd Girls to inspire you! To participate in our challenges, you do not have to use Some Odd Girl images on your projects, but bonus entries will be given to those who do, and there's always a FREEBIE available if you want to 'try before you buy'. (Go ahead, adopt Spike - he plays well with others, despite his intimidating glare!) We do, however, want to see some kind of STAMPING (rubber/acrylic or digital) on your fabulous creations. So are you ready to play?!

Our VERY FIRST CHALLENGE is a STASH challenge. You'll need to turn to your stash to find what's needed to play along.

So let's kick it off! We want to see you playing with the RAINBOW! Interpret that as you like, we just need to be able to look at your project and say "Oh! Yeah, I see where they were going with this!"... lots of room for some artistic license. ;)

And your first taste of inspiration from our Odd Girls....

Marcie (using "Tree")

Robin (using "Sun"):

Can ya TASTE the rainbow, friends? ;) Well show us whatcha got, 'cuz we got PRIZES! One lucky, RANDOM winner will get a free digi stamp of their choice from SomeOddGirl.com, plus this SNEAK PEEK image, which will not be released to the public until APRIL! Meet Mae:

Mae is Kaylee's best friend, and she's clearly just gone to see the new Alice in Wonderland movie. ;)

In addition to our winner getting MAE and a free digi of their choice, we will also be awarding a special banner/blinkie to TWO people who WOW us with their creations. Because we all like to be just a little odd sometimes, don't we?
